Date of News Release: 11/16/2011
(Hazard, Ky.) -- On Tuesday November 15, 2011 at approximately 7:45 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call of a single vehicle collision on KY Highway 7 North, in the Colson community of Letcher County. The report advised that a car had traveled over an embankment, where it ruptured a natural gas line. KSP Troopers were dispatched to the scene, along with Letcher Fire and Rescue and the Colson Fire Department. Officers located the car, with two occupants inside, at this scene.
The initial investigation determined that Sheila Collins, 35 years old of Whitesburg, was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang, southbound on KY 7, when the vehicle went out of control and traveled over the embankment. As a result, a passenger in the car, 28 year old Pam Walker of Frankfort, KY, received fatal injuries from this collision. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner. Sheila Collins was transported to Whitesburg ARH for treatment of her injuries and was later released. No seat belts were in use at the time of this incident, and alcohol is not considered a factor. This incident remains under investigation by Tpr. Adam Hall of KSP Post 13.
