Date of News Release: 11/13/2011

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On Saturday November 12, 2011, at approximately 12:46 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call of a single vehicle collision on KY 805 in the Haymond community of Letcher County. Members of Neon EMS apparently witnessed this collision and were soon on the scene to determine that the two occupants in this vehicle were deceased. KSP officers were dispatched to the scene to investigate.

Initial investigation of this collision determined that Jimmy Woods Jr., 19 years old, of Burdine, KY, was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt on KY 805, when he lost control and went off the east bound shoulder of the roadway. The car collided with a tree, and then came to rest in a creek. Mr. Woods, along with a passenger, 22 year old Whitney Griffin, of McRoberts, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroners Office. No seat belts were in use. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Randy Combs with KSP Post 13 in Hazard.
