One killed in a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 15 & 1148

(Hazard, Ky.) -- A 21 year old Letcher County man died as the result of a two vehicle collision on Saturday, July 23rd. The collision happened at 12:32 A.M. near the intersection of Highway 15 & 1148 in the Isom Community of Letcher County.

Benjamin P. Fisher, age 21 of Whitesburg, KY was operating a 1999 Pontiac Passenger car when he ran off the roadway, over corrected and lost control of his vehicle resulting in crossing the center line colliding with a 2003 Chevrolet Street Sweeper truck operated by Robert J. Beaver, II of Mallie, KY. Benjamin Fisher, was not seat belted, was transported by Letcher mbulance service to the Whitesburg ARH Hospital and was later transferred to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN where he was later pronounced deceased by Dr. Dan Adams, attending physician at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday July 24th.

Robert J. Beaver, II was transported to Whitesburg ARH Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Lexington, KY. Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in this collision. Trooper Brandon Thomas, U/764 is in charge of accident reconstruction/investigation.
