Public Meeting on HB 463

(Hazard, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police Post 13 will be hosting a public meeting regarding House Bill 463 in Hazard, Kentucky. HB 463, which has been effective since June, covers comprehensive changes to the judicial system which directly impacts several areas including law enforcement, jails, courts, judges, prosecutors, etc. This comprehensive change reflects a need to reduce the prison population in Kentucky. There will be officials present from several disciplines affected by HB 463 along with others who worked on the studies and implementation of the new law. Officials include:
Tom Handy, former Commonwealth Attorney for Laurel County
Bill Engle, Circuit Court Judge for Perry County
Dewey Hackworth, District 11 Supervisor for Probation and Parole
Dan Smoot, Retired KSP, and Law Enforcement Director for UNITE
The public will have an opportunity to ask questions of the panel and address any concerns they may have regarding the changes to the law.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 5:30 pm at the Hal Rogers Forum in Hazard, Kentucky.
