KSP annual basketball tournament to raise funds for Trooper Island
Date of News Release: 04/25/2011
(Hazard, Ky.) -- This past weekend Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard hosted the annual KSP basketball tournament to raise money for the Trooper Island Camp. Trooper Island is a camp that makes it possible for underprivileged 10-12- year-old boys and girls to attend a free weeklong camp they may not otherwise be able to go. This year, 12 teams represented posts or other division of Kentucky State Police throughout the state of Kentucky. The participating teams were: Bowling Green Post 3, Elizabethtown Post 4, Dry Ridge Post 6, Campbellsburg Post 5, Ashland Post 14, London Post 11, Pikeville Post 9, Specials Operations Branch, Harlan Post 10, Frankfort Post 12 and Hazard Post 13. The first place trophy went to Post 13 in Hazard; the runner up went to Special Operations.
This year's event was held at the Knott County Sportsplex on Friday and Saturday. All tournament proceeds go to Trooper Island. The teams played hard and after a very close game, Post 13 won their first Championship since 1998.
This year's Tournament MVP was selected by the Tournament's committee; the honor went to Post 13's custodian, Tommy Collins of Amburgey, Ky.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every team, individual or organization that helped or participated in this very successful event. A special thanks to sponsors of the tournament go out to Knott Drug Abuse Council, Graphic Impressions and the Knott County Sportsplex.
Anyone who wishes to make a donation to Trooper Island can do so by contacting your local Kentucky State Police Post or Trooper Island directly.
