Knott County fatal traffic collision

(Hazard, Ky.) -- A Knott County woman has died as the result of injuries received in a head on collision in Knott County. The Kentucky State Police in Hazard were notified of the collision that happened at approximately 9:04 A.M. on Sunday, January 30th, 2011 along state highway 160 in the Litt Carr Community of Knott County. A 1996 Toyota passenger car operated by Kevin L. Stamper, age 28 of Pinetop, KY was traveling northbound along Highway 160 when the vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane. A 2005 Chevrolet 4-door passenger car driven by Arietta H. Martin age 58 of Litt Carr, KY was struck head on. The drivers of each vehicle were airlifted to a trauma center in Kingsport, TN. A passenger in the vehicle driven by Kevin Stamper was transported by Tran-Star Ambulance Service to the Hazard ARH Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Arietta H. Martin was pronounced deceased at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. No seat belts were believed to be in use at the time of the collision. Trooper Justin Cornett is in charge of the investigation.
