Kentucky State Police Frankfort Post Assist Franklin County Sheriff's Office in Pursuit
Date of News Release: 08/13/2011
(Frankfort, KY.) -- On Friday, August 12, 2011 at 8:43 PM the Franklin County Sheriff's Department had initiated a high speed vehicle pursuit of a suspected intoxicated driver. Kentucky State Police troopers converged to the area of the pursuit to assist in a support capacity. Near the intersection of U.S. 460 and Switzer Road, State Police troopers and sheriff's deputies were staged for tire deflation device deployment, which successfully deflated the suspect's tires, however the suspect continued in his attempts to flee. The suspect intentionally rammed three State Police vehicles causing estimated total damage in excess of $3,000. As the suspect continued on U.S. 460 into the Frankfort city limits nearing a congested intersection of U.S. 60 and U.S. 460, State Police troopers recognized the risk of allowing the pursuit to continue further into a more populated area and a decision was made to take the lead in the pursuit and utilize legal intervention forcibly stopping the fleeing vehicle. The suspect continued to physically resist police officers at which time a trooper utilized a taser to affect the arrest. The suspect vehicle was operated by Brandon Purvis of Frankfort, KY. He was taken to the Franklin County Regional Medical Center for medical observation due to his high level of alcohol intoxication.
Kentucky State Police charged Brandon Purvis with 3 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st (on a police officer), 3 counts of Criminal Mischief 1st, and Resisting Arrest. The Franklin County Sherriff's Office also has several felony and traffic charges on Purvis. He has been lodged in the Franklin County Detention Center.
