Kids Leaving for Trooper Island Camp

Date of News Release: 07/18/2011

(Post 12 Frankfort) -- On Monday July 25, 2011, Post 12-Frankfort and Post 5-Campbellsburg will send 64 boys and girls to Trooper Island for a week of fun. The Trooper Island bus will leave Post 12 at 10:00 A.M. The Frankfort Post will send 32 kids come from Fayette, Franklin, Scott, Anderson, Shelby, Spencer and Woodford counties. The Campbellsburg Post will send 32 kids from Carroll, Gallatin, Henry, Oldham, Owen, and Trimble counties.

Boys and girls, ages 10 to 12, are selected from each of the sixteen post areas. Each Trooper selects children that may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a camp.

Trooper Island was developed by Kentucky State Police as part of a long range program of public service to the youth of Kentucky. It is a place where the tensions and turmoil of everyday lives can be forgotten; and for one week young people can be given a touch of hope and desire of a better tomorrow.

The camping program is dedicated toward the development of one's self image. Building the physical body through nutritious food and exercise, developing mental capabilities with classroom study and providing spiritual growth through non-denominational chapel services.

There is no cost to the campers who attend Trooper Island and there are no restrictions based on race, creed or color. The camp gets some of it funding through actives the 16 Kentucky State Police put on during the year. The Frankfort Post will be having our Trooper Island Motorcycle Poker Run on August 13, 2011. The rain date for the Poker Run is August 20, 2011. The Post 12 Trooper Island Golf scramble will be on September 8, 2011 at Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, KY.
