Fatal Traffic Crash in McCreary County

(London, Ky.) -- On Thursday, September 01, 2011 at approximately 6:04 AM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a two vehicle traffic crash, with a fatality, on US 27 near the Wiborg Loop in McCreary County.
Upon arrival Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Craig Reed determined that, a white, 2005, Nissan Frontier, operated by Wilfredo Rivera, 33, of Somerset was traveling southbound on US 27 when it struck a black, 1993, Ford, F-150 pickup truck, operated by Robert Vanover, 56, of Whitley City, in the rear.
After impact the Nissan traveled across the northbound lanes, up an embankment and overturned on the shoulder. The Ford came to rest on the southbound shoulder where it caught fire and was totally destroyed.
The operator of the Nissan, Wilfredo Rivera, 33, of Somerset, was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.
The operator of the Ford, Robert Vanover, 56, of Whitley City was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.
A passenger in the Ford, Scott Cox, 44, of Whitley City was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.
A second passenger of the Ford, David Michael Ball, 65, of Parkers Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene by the McCreary County Coroner.
Wilfredo Rivera was not wearing a seat belt during the crash and seat belt usage by the occupants of the Ford is unknown due to the fire.
Trooper Reed is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by officers of the Kentucky State Police, the McCreary County Sheriff's Department, the McCreary County Coroner's Office, the McCreary County EMS and the North McCreary Fire Department.
