Traffic Crash in Laurel County

(London, Ky.) -- On Tuesday, August 02, 2011 at approximately 4:45 PM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a single vehicle versus a building traffic crash at the 49'er Truck Stop on KY 909 in Laurel County.

Upon arrival Trooper Fred Pennington determined that, a 1997, black, Honda, Accord traveled into the truck stop building through a short wall and window, struck a register counter and pinned the cashier, Tina Tyree, 36, of East Bernstadt, KY, between the counter and the wall.

Tyree was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY for treatment of her injuries.

Upon further investigation into the incident Trooper Pennington discovered that the Honda was occupied by one (1) adult, Jackie Dunn, 43, of McKee, KY who was in the passenger seat and two (2) children, Jayden Ward, 4, of McKee and Madison Carr, 5, of Tyner, both in the back seat prior to the crash. Ward moved into the front seat and put the Honda into drive causing the crash.

Trooper Pennington is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by officers of the Kentucky State Police, Ambulance, Inc of Laurel County, the East Bernstadt Fire Department and the Laurel County Rescue squad.
