Fatal Traffic Crash in McCreary County

(London, Ky.) -- On Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at approximately 1:21 PM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a traffic crash on US 27 in McCreary County.

Upon arrival Trooper Phillip Hayes determined that, unit 1, a white, 2008, Ford, Expedition operated by Anthony D. Johnson, 39, of Pine Knot, was traveling northbound on US 27 when it attempted to pass another northbound vehicle and struck unit 2 head-on.

Unit 2, a white, 2007, GMC, Sierra, pickup truck, operated by Ronald C. Capehart, 54, of Knoxville, TN was traveling southbound on US 27 when struck head-on by unit 1.

Anthony D. Johnson was flown from the scene to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN for treatment of his injuries.

A passenger in unit 1, Nena L. Johnson, 39, of Pine Knot, was pronounced dead at the scene by the McCreary County Coroner's Office.

Ronald C. Capehart was transported to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY for treatment of his injuries.

All were wearing the sealtbelts at the time of the crash.

No alcohol or drug usage suspected.

Trooper Hayes is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by the McCreary County Sheriff's Department, McCreary County Coroner's Office, the McCreary County EMS, the Whitley City Fire Department and the North McCreary Fire Department.
