Fatal ATV Traffic Crash in Whitley County

(London, Ky.) -- On Saturday, June 11, 2011 at approximately 1:39 PM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of an ATV traffic crash on Ward Cemetery Road in northern Whitley County.

Upon arrival Trooper Mike Witt determined that Travis D. Cox, 29, of Corbin, was riding an ATV southbound on Ward Cemetery Road when it traveled off the southbound shoulder, crossed a gravel driveway and became airborne before overturning.

Cox, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the ATV where he struck a wooden fence before landing in a water filled ditch.

Cox was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County Coroner Andrew Croley.

Trooper Witt is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by the Whitley County Coroner, the Whitley County EMS, the Oak Grove Fire Department and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.
