Arrests in Laurel County

Date of News Release: 02/27/2011

(London, Ky.) -- On Saturday, February 26, 2011 at approximately 2:00 AM, Officers from the Kentucky State Police and the Two Rivers Drug Task Force responded at a residence located on Earl Howard Road, 9 miles south of London, in the Keavy community of Laurel County in reference to the service of Laurel County Indictment warrants.

Upon arrival KSP Sergeant Steve Walker located Shelia Cornett, 32, of Keavy, and John Cornett, 38, of Keavy at the home of James Karr, 60, of Corbin.

The Cornett's were wanted on the charges of: Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine and Cultivation of Marijuana (5 plants or more) in reference to an investigation by the Two Rivers Drug Task Force.

During the search for the Cornett's officers discovered a large quantity of alcoholic beverages inside Karr's residence.

Karr was arrested and charged with Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in Dry Local Option Territory (2nd Offense) and Hindering Prosecution and Apprehension.

Seized from Karr's residence was:

  • 191 - 12 oz. cans Budweiser beer
  • 161-12oz. cans "Milwaukee's Best" Light beer
  • 65- 12oz, cans "Natural Light" beer
  • 27 12oz. cans "Bud Light" beer
  • 14 750ml. bottles "Ancient Age" whiskey
  • 5 750ml. bottles "Taaka" vodka
  • 4- 750ml. bottles "Boones Farm" wine
  • 4 750ml. bottles MD 20/20 wine
  • 7 12oz. bottles "Budweiser" beer
  • $406.00 cash

Sergeant Walker is continuing the investigation and was assisted by officers from the Kentucky State Police and the Two Rivers Drug Task Force.
