Shooting investigation in Pulaski County

(London, Ky.) -- On Thursday February 24, 2011 at 5:55 AM the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a request, from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, to investigate a shooting incident that involves two sheriff's deputies.
At 4:07 AM the Wayne County 911 Center contacted the Pulaski County 911 Center requesting assistance, pursuant to KRS 431.007, on an emergency call involving a domestic dispute at a residence on Portland Drive in the Jabez community of Wayne County.
The request came due to the geographical makeup of Wayne County with the Jabez community being located on the north side of Lake Cumberland and the emergency nature of the call.
Upon arrival, the two deputies' were confronted by James M. Lane, 38, of Jabez, who was armed with a handgun.
Mr. Lane refused to comply with deputies commands and presented an immediate threat.
One deputy engaged the suspect with his issued firearm.
Mr. Lane was struck in the torso and deputies immediately began first aid that resulted in CPR being performed until Pulaski County EMS arrived.
Mr. Lane was pronounced dead, at the scene, by the Wayne County Coroner Forest Hicks.
Detective Doug Boyd is the lead investigator and was assisted at the scene by officers from the Kentucky State Police, the Pulaski County Sheriff's office, Pulaski County EMS, the Pulaski County Coroners office and the Wayne County Sheriff's office.
