One killed in a single vehicle collision on White Rock Road

(London, Ky.) -- On Monday February 14, 2011 at 06:30 AM the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a single vehicle traffic crash, with injury, on White Rock Road (old US 461) two (2) miles south of Mount Vernon in Rockcastle County.

Upon arrival Trooper Jason Vanhook determined that a beige, 1998, Toyota, Corolla, passenger car operated by Dessie S. Smith, 67, of Eubank, KY was traveling southbound on White Rock Road when, for some unknown reason, the vehicle left the right shoulder of the roadway and struck an embankment. The Toyota, which became airborne, came to rest on its wheels against a residence, which sustained minor damage, on White Rock Road.

Ms. Smith, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the Rockcastle County Hospital for treatment of her injuries and was pronounced dead at 07:05 AM.

No alcohol or drug involvement is suspected.

Trooper Vanhook is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by the Mount Vernon Fire Department and the Rockcastle County EMS.
