Collision claims the life of a Knox County teen

(Harlan, Ky.) -- On 06/04/2011 at 7:09 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 10 in Harlan responded to a motor vehicle collision on KY 11-N in the Green Road Community of Knox County. Upon officers' arrival, it was determined that a motorcycle operated by a male juvenile of Green Road, was traveling southbound on KY 11-N. William Grant, age 28, of Corbin was operating a 1996 Toyota passenger car and was traveling northbound on KY 11-N. The juvenile had just pulled from a driveway and was in the northbound lane traveling south. Mr. Grant saw the motorcycle in his lane and swerved to avoid collision with the juvenile; however, the juvenile also swerved to the same direction causing both vehicles to collide. The male juvenile was ejected from the motorcycle. He was pronounced at the scene by Knox County Coroner's Office. He was not wearing a helmet.

Mr. Grant was taken to the Knox County Hospital with minor injuries where he was treated and released. The passenger in Mr. Grant's vehicle, Misty Grant, age 25, was airlifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center. Her condition is unknown at this time. Both Mr. Grant and Ms. Grant were not wearing their seatbelts. This collision remains under investigation by Tpr. Jason Bunch. No charges are pending at this time. Tpr. Bunch was assisted on scene by Sgt. Jimmy Young and Tpr. Marcus Williams and deputies from the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
