Fatal Investigation in Harlan County

(Verda, Ky.) -- On 5/26/2011 at 12:00 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan responded to a fatality in the community of Verda, KY. Two people were laying on railroad tracks and were unresponsive to a CSX trains horn blasts. The train engineer was unable to stop the train in time and ran over both subjects. Carolyn S. Parker, age 49 of Ages, KY was killed on impact and Curtis R. Pace, age 43 of Evarts, KY sustained severe injuries and was flown out to Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN. Alcohol may have been a factor in this incident and toxicology is pending for Parker and Pace. Assisting at the scene was the Harlan County Coronerís Office and Johnson's LifeCare.

This incident is still under investigation by TFC Kevin Miller of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
