One Killed When Car Strikes a Deer

(Harold, Ky.) -- On Saturday, November 13, 2010, at approximately 9:47 am Kentucky State Police, Post 9, Pikeville, received a call of a collision on KY Rte 680 in the Harold community of Floyd County. Tpr Chris Hicks and Trooper Adam Hensley responded to the collision. It was determined at the scene that a 1998 Buick LeSabre driven by Henry Hamilton, Jr, 65, of Harold was traveling west on KY Rte 680 when a deer crossed in front of his vehicle. Mr. Hamilton's vehicle struck the deer. A 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Robert Harper, 60, of Harold was traveling east on KY Rte 680. After the impact of the deer with Mr. Hamilton's vehicle, the deer was deflected into the path of Mr. Harper's vehicle. The deer then traveled through the windshield and struck a passenger in Mr. Harper's vehicle. Ardith Harper, 59, of Harold, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. The collision is still under investigation by Trooper Chris Hicks. He was assisted at the scene by Trooper Adam Hensley, Sgt Jennifer Sandlin, and CVE Sgt Keith Justice.
