Residential Fire in Pike County

(Pikeville, Ky.) -- On Friday, November 12, 2010 at approximately 11:32 pm, Kentucky State Police, Post 9, in Pikeville, received a call of a residential fire in the Mossy Bottom community of Pike County. Upon the arrival of the Coal Run Fire Department, the residence was fully engulfed. James Hamilton, 79, was able to get out of the residence. Once the fire was extinguished to the point that it was safe to search, Sammie Hamilton, 78, was located deceased inside the residence. Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire was accidental. James Hamilton was transported to Pikeville Medical Center with minor injuries. The incident is still under investigation by KSP Det. Jason Merlo. Det Merlo was assisted at the scene by KSP Fire Investigator James Burnett.
