Fatality in Martin County

(Inez, Ky.) -- On Saturday, November 06, 2010, at approximately 2:57 pm Kentucky State Police, Post 9, Pikeville, received a call of a collision on KY Rte 2032 in the Inez community of Martin County. Detective Tony Russell responded to the collision. It was determined at the scene that Sherman Perry, 38, of Pilgrim, was operating a 1996 Ford Ranger west on KY Rte 2032. Perry's vehicle crossed the center line and traveled into the path of a Ford Ranger being operated by Fred Marcum, 40, of Warfield, and resulted in a head on collision. Mr. Marcum died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. A passenger in Mr. Marcum's vehicle, Robin Perry, 39, of Hode was flown to St Mary's hospital for treatment of her injuries. Sherman Perry was suspected of being under the influence of drugs. Perry was arrested and charged with DUI 2nd Offense (Aggravating Circumstances), Murder, Assault 1st degree, and other traffic related charges. Perry was lodged at the Big Sandy Detention Center. The criminal case is under investigation by Det Russell. Det Eddie Crum is in charge of the collision investigation. Det Russell and Crum were assisted at the scene by Martin County SO and CVE Sgt Keith Justice.
