Kentucky State Police to Partner with DEA for National "Take Back" Initiative

Date of News Release: 09/22/2010

(Pikeville, Ky.) -- The KSP will partner with the Drug Enforcement Agency on September 25, 2010 in an effort to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from home medicine cabinets. Collection activities will start at 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. at the Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville.

The unique aspect of this initiative is that it is free and anonymous. No identification will be necessary for anyone to bring medication in for disposal.

Intra-venous solutions, injectibles, and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazards.

Illicit substances such as marijuana and methamphetamine are not part of the "take back" program and should not be placed in the collection containers.

Anyone requesting information regarding the program may contact the State Police Post in their area. The number to contact for the Kentucky State Police 9 in Pikeville is 606-433-7711.
