Fatal Collision on US 460 in Menifee County

Date of News Release: 11/10/2010

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On 11/10/2010 at 1359 hours K.S.P. Post 08 Morehead received a call from the Menifee County Sheriff's Department requesting assistance with a fatal traffic accident. The accident occurred on US460 at the intersection of Dog Trot Road. A 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, Operated by James Gibbins was traveling westbound on US460, when the vehicle dropped off of the roadway. The vehicle continued to travel westbound, making contact with a culvert causing the vehicle to overturn. Seat belts were not in use by both adults and the front air bags deployed. James Gibbins and Amanda Vaughn were both ejected from the vehicle. James Gibbins sustained life threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Menifee County Coroner Melody Smallwood. Amanda Vaughn was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. The two juvenile passengers were in child safety seats and were treated at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling and released. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Jeremy Hamm.
