Fatal Fire Investigation in Morehead, Ky

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On October 16, 2010 Kentucky State Police Morehead responded to the scene of a duplex fire that occurred at 127 East Sun Street at 1000 hours at the request of the Morehead Police/Fire Dispatch to investigate the deaths of two occupants of the duplex. Detective Donnie McGraw and Detective Shane Barns responded to the scene. At 0910 hours this date Morehead Dispatch received a 911 call from Vada Knipp advising that her home was on fire; she was trapped in the upper level of her residence and could not get out due to the flames. Morehead Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Vada Knipp was transported by Rowan County EMS to St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Ky., where she was pronounced deceased from the injuries sustained in the fire at 1016 hours. Kris Harvey, whom lived in the adjacent duplex was pronounced deceased on scene at 1026 hours by Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt, the cause of the fire can not be determined at this time. The deaths remain under investigation by Detective Donnie McGraw. The fire remains under investigation by Arson Investigator Shane Barns.
