Fatal Accident on KY519

Date of News Release: 08/14/2010

(Morehead, Ky.) -- On August 14th 2010 at approximately 0257hrs, Post 8 Morehead was contacted by Morehead dispatch requesting assistance with an injury accident on KY519. Tpr. Scott Caudill responded to the scene. Once on scene EMS had already transported Kelita Nicole Hicks to St. Claire Medical Hospital, where she was immediately flown via helicopter to University Medical Center in Lexington Kentucky. Kelita N. Hicks was operating a 1986 T-Top Chevrolet Monte Carlo southbound on KY519, 1.5 miles south of Morehead city limits. Ms. Hicks attempted to change seats with the passenger in the car by climbing over the T-Top. While in transition she fell from the center portion of the T-Top striking the pavement and guardrail off the northbound shoulder. Fayette County Coroner John McCarty pronounced Ms. Hicks deceased at 0545hrs as the cause of massive blunt force trauma. Next of kin has been notified by John McCarty. Morehead Police Department and Morehead Sheriff's Department assisted. Incident remains under investigation by Trooper Scott Caudill.
