The collision occurred this date at 10:07 a.m., when a southbound 1994 Chevrolet Blazer being operated by Alan Marcum, age 35 of Beattyville, left the traveled portion of the roadway, and drove into the parking lot of the Bobcat Restaurant The vehicle then struck the left front side of a pickup being operated by Rebecca Combs, age 41 of Beattyville. Marcum's vehicle then crossed into the northbound lane of KY 11, where it traveled through a parking lot and sideswiped a utility pole. Marcum's vehicle then went airborne over a steep embankment and traveled an estimated 120 ft. before it struck a tree at the base of a creek. Marcum, along with his three passengers, were pronounced dead at the scene by Lee County Coroner Ray Shuler. The passengers are identified as Ronnie Herald, age 32, Sabrina Daluisio, age 25, and Jeremiah Freeman, age 35. All of the victims are from Beattyville. None were wearing seat belts. Combs, who was stopped in the parking lot of the Bobcat Restaurant, was not injured. Lee County Fire and Rescue, along with the Lee County EMS also responded to the scene. The State Highway Department also responded, and used a bulldozer to cut an access road to the creek. This road facilitated the removal of the victims and their vehicle.
