Jackson County Shooting Investigation

(McKee, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police Post 7 Richmond, is currently investigating a shooting which occurred at the Ronnie M. Sparks residence on Scott Cox Road in Jackson County. On February 1st, 2010 at approximately 7:46 a.m., Ronnie M. Sparks, age 68 of McKee, contacted KSP by phone and stated that he had just shot his son inside his residence. Trooper Jesse Armstrong responded, and upon his arrival found Ronnie D. Sparks, age 46 of Richmond, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Mr. Sparks was airlifted to the UK Medical Center where he has undergone surgery. According to investigators at the scene, the Mr. Sparks were involved in a heated argument after a night of heavy drinking. Ronnie D. Sparks allegedly turned a kitchen table over onto his father, Ronnie M. Sparks, causing injury. The elderly Sparks then fired two shots from a handgun at his son, with one of the shots striking the younger Mr. Sparks in the abdomen. Ronnie M. Sparks has not been charged. The investigation will be presented to a Jackson County Grand Jury. The shooting remains under investigation by Detective Ken Bradley.
