Domestic Violence Shooting Investigation

Date of News Release: 11/15/2010

(New Castle, Ky.) -- Troopers and Detectives at Post 5 are currently investigating a domestic violence incident in Henry County which has resulted in a man being shot. State Police dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at 2:06 a.m. this morning (11/15) from the home located 1417 South Property Road reporting that Richard Horvath (36 years old from New Castle) and Dena Valentine (44 years old from New Castle) were being assaulted. Dispatchers learned that Valentine's ex-boyfriend, Doug Moore (44 years old from Lockport), used force to break into the home and began assaulting them. As Troopers responded to the scene, Moore fled after learning that law enforcement was in route. Troopers then attempted to locate Moore for Assault, 4th Degree. Valentine decided to remain at that location with Horvath and family members.

Dispatchers received a second 9-1-1 call from 1417 South Property Road reporting that Moore returned and had unlawfully entered the residence again. Moore again allegedly assaulted Horvath and Valentine a second time when Valentine's grandfather, Albert Valentine (69 years old from New Castle), armed himself with a shotgun and fired one time at Moore. Moore was struck one time in the shoulder. Valentine was flown to the University of Louisville hospital by Air Methods, Inc. Moore was in serious but stable condition when removed from the scene.

Detective Steve Goodale is leading the ongoing investigation. The Eminence Police Department and Henry County EMS assisted at the scene.
