Infant Death Investigation at the Roederer Correctional Complex
Date of News Release: 03/08/2010
(LaGrange, Ky.) -- The Roederer Correctional Complex notified the Kentucky State Police at 4:04 p.m. that a female visitor had been transported by Oldham County EMS to Baptist East hospital for a miscarriage that occurred in one of the facility's restrooms at 11:07 a.m. At approximately 4:00 p.m., it was determined that the female visitor did not have a miscarriage, but instead gave birth to a full term baby. Prison officials then contacted KSP and initiated a search of the facility for the baby. The newborn baby was discovered by corrections staff hidden inside a trash receptacle at 4:29 p.m. The baby was pronounced dead by Oldham County Coroner Brett Donner 4:42 p.m.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the manner of death. The incident remains under investigation by Detective Todd Harwood. More information will follow as information develops.
