Injury collision on I-65

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) - On December 21, 2010 at 12:26 A.M. Kentucky State Police Post 4 received a report of a male standing along side Interstate 65 near the 97 mile marker on the northbound side attempting to wave down passing traffic. Upon arrival Troopers discovered a 2005 Ford F-150 overturned down an embankment. All three occupants of the vehicle had been ejected from the vehicle. The operator Tammy Smith, age 36 of Louisville was found in front of the vehicle, a 17 year of age male occupant of Bardstown, was located further down the embankment against a fence. The third occupant, also a 17 year of age male of Louisville, had crawled away from the vehicle and up the embankment to wave down traffic. All three occupants where transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Louisville. All occupants where listed as having serious but, non-life threatening injuries and in stable condition. Troopers where assisted on scene by Hardin County Ambulance Service and Central Hardin Fire Department. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Trooper Daniel Leonard.
