One Killed in DUI Collision on KY46

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) -- At 20:55 hrs, KSP Post 4 received a report of an injury accident on KY46 approximately 4 miles south of Bardstown. It was determined by Trooper Brad Riley that a 1995 GMC Sonoma, operated by Robert O'Bryan, age 26, of New Haven was traveling eastbound on KY46 and a 1997 Dodge Stratus, operated by Corie Newsome, age 21, of Bardstown was traveling westbound . The GMC Sonoma crossed the center line and struck the Dodge Stratus head-on. After the initial contact the GMC Sonoma continued approximately 160 feet before coming to a rest in the ditch. The Dodge Stratus came to rest off of the north shoulder of the roadway. Mr. O'Bryan was pronounced dead at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner's Office. Alcohol was located in the GMC Sonoma and is suspected as a contributing factor in the accident. Mr. Newsome was transported to the University Of Louisville Hospital by Air Methods. Two other passengers in the Dodge Stratus, Alton Brady, age 19, of Bardstown and James Close Jr., age 20, of Bardstown, were transported by Nelson County EMS. Trooper Riley was assisted by Trooper Jason Woodside, Nelson County EMS, Nelson County Coroner's Office, Nelson County Sheriff's Office and Bardstown Fire Department. The accident is still under investigation.
