Date of News Release: 07/31/2010

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) -- On July 30, 2010 at approximately 4:45pm, Troopers from the Kentucky State Police and deputies from the Breckinridge Sheriff's Department responded to an injury accident on US 60 in Breckinridge County two miles east of Irvington. According to witness statements and evidence at the scene, Troopers determined that Unit 1, a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck being operated by Charles Austin, 58 years old from Louisville, was traveling westbound on US 60 when he crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane. Unit 1 then impacted Unit 2, a semi-tractor and trailer being operated by Lonnie Clark, 63 years old from Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, striking the semi-tractor in the rear wheels. Unit 1 then left the roadway and came to a position of final rest in a grassy area just off the roadway. Unit 2 came to a position of final rest on the roadway.

Charles Austin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Breckinridge County Coroner. Lonnie Clark was not injured. Both parties were wearing their seatbelts. Trooper Norman Chaffins is continuing to investigate the collision.
