Update - Non-Injury collision with road blockage on I-24

Oak Grove, KY. (Christian County) -- Richard J. Miller, age 49 of Knoxville, TN, was operating a 2009 Volvo Tractor-Trailer eastbound on I-24 at approximately the 91 mile-marker. He was hauling steel pipe. Jack Whiteaker, age 64 of Cookeville, TN, was operating a 1995 International Tractor-Trailer eastbound on I-24. He was empty. Mr. Whiteaker was traveling behind Mr. Miller. Mr. Miller experienced a medical emergency and his vehicle came to a stop in the right lane. Mr. Whiteaker attempted to avoid Mr. Miller's vehicle, but was unable to do so. Mr. Whiteaker's vehicle struck the trailer of Mr. Miller's vehicle. The tractor of Mr. Whiteaker's vehicle was blocking both eastbound lanes of travel and the trailer was partially in the median and on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Both lanes were closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours. Trooper Ben Sawyer investigated the crash that occurred on Monday, December 20, 2010 at 9:14 a.m. Trooper Mike Manzanares, Christian County Sheriff's Department, Oak Grove Police Department, Oak Grove Fire Department, Kentucky Environmental Protection Agency, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted at the scene.

Oak Grove, KY. (Christian County) -- The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating a collision on Interstate 24 at approximately the 93 mile-marker. On Monday, December 20, 2010, at 9:14 a.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville received a call in reference to a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 24 at the 93 mile-marker. The collision involves two tractor-trailers. No injuries are reported. At the present time, both eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 are closed due to the collision. State Police and other emergency responders are on the scene. The highway department is in the process of establishing a detour at exit 86. It is not known how long the roadway will be closed. An update will follow when more information is available.
