Felony Drug Arrests in Hopkins County

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- On Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 7:48 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville received an anonymous tip of a strong, chemical odor coming from the residence located at 1688 Continental Drive approximately one mile east of Madisonville. Trooper Jay Cottrell and Sergeant Brenton Ford responded to investigate the complaint.
Upon arriving, the officers discovered a strong, chemical odor coming from the residence. Officers also located comments used to manufacture methamphetamine in a vehicle at the residence. Trooper Cottrell obtained a search warrant for the property and executed it. Officers located methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia inside the residence. Trooper Cottrell arrested the homeowner, Jon M. Settle, age 40 of Madisonville, KY, and charged him with Trafficking Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense-Meth, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Trooper Ben Sawyer arrested Michael J. Bruce, age 43 of Bremen, KY, and charged him with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense-Meth. Mr. Bruce was also present at the residence at the time the search warrant was executed. Both men were lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
Sergeant Brenton Ford, Trooper Carlo Anderson, Detective William Braden, Trooper Benjamin Cox, Trooper Brandon McPherson, Trooper Scotty Sharp, Trooper Casey Wethington, and the Madisonville Police Department assisted at the scene.
