Stats From Post 2 For October 2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of October 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 24 Impaired Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,497 Citations
- Issued 589 Speeding Citations
- Issued 125 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 20 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 460 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 85 Traffic Crashes
- Assisted 151 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 910 Calls For Service
- Opened 70 Criminal Cases
- Made 122 Criminal Arrests
**There were 4 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 5 lives reported in the Post 2 District in October 2010. A double-fatality crash occurred in Muhlenberg County. Two, single-fatality crashes occurred in Christian County and one fatality crash occurred in Caldwell County. 2 victims were not wearing seat belts, 2 victims were wearing seat belts, and 1 victim was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol was a suspected factor in the Caldwell County fatality.
Through October 31, 2010, 42 people have been killed in 36 crashes in the Post 2 District. 15 victims were not wearing seat belts, 14 victims were wearing seat belts, 6 victims were not wearing helmets, 1 victim was wearing a helmet, 1 was not applicable, and the seat belt status of 5 victims is unknown. 9 of the fatal crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through October 31, 2009, 32 people had been killed in 30 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
