Injury Collision on the Pennyrile Parkway

Date of News Release: 10/13/2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Ms. Ember Hatfield was traveling southbound on the Pennyrile Parkway, in the left lane during heavy rainfall. Mr. Danny Newton was traveling southbound on the Pennyrile Parkway, in the right lane behind Ms. Hatfield's vehicle. Ms. Hatfield's vehicle then hydro-planed, causing her to lose control of the vehicle and cross into Mr. Newton's lane of travel. The front bumper of Mr. Newton's vehicle then made contact with the rear bumper of Ms. Hatfield's vehicle. The impact caused Ms. Hatfield's vehicle to spin, exiting the right shoulder of the roadway, striking an earth embankment. The impact also caused Mr. Newton to lose control, and his vehicle exited the right shoulder of the roadway. Ms. Hatfield's vehicle overturned before coming to rest upright, against an earth embankment just off the right shoulder of the roadway. Upon leaving the right shoulder of the roadway, Mr. Newton's vehicle also struck the same earth embankment and came to rest just off the right shoulder of the roadway. Danny Newton and his wife, Caroline Newton, were transported by Med-Center ambulance to Regional Medical Center, for injuries sustained as a result of the collision.
