Stats From Post 2 For September 2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of September 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 41 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,934 Citations
  • Issued 894 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 132 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 21 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 634 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 85 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 184 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 995 Calls For Service
  • Opened 76 Criminal Cases
  • Made 182 Criminal Arrests

**There were 5 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 7 lives reported in the Post 2 District in September 2010. All of the fatal crashes occurred in Christian County including one triple-fatality crash. 1 victim was wearing a seat belt, 1 victim was not wearing a helmet, 1 victim was wearing a helmet, and the seat belt status of 4 victims is unknown.

Through September 30, 2010, 37 people have been killed in 32 crashes in the Post 2 District. 13 victims were not wearing seat belts, 12 victims were wearing seat belts, 5 victims were not wearing helmets, 1 victim was wearing a helmet, 1 was not applicable, and the seat belt status of 5 victims is unknown. 8 of the fatal crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through September 30, 2009, 30 people had been killed in 28 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
