One Killed & Three Injured in a Two Vehicle Collision on I-24

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Luo Shuanghui, age 39 of Brentwood, TN, was operating a 2001 Toyota Camry westbound on I-24. William L. Powell II, age 31 of Paducah, KY, was operating a 2000 GMC Jimmy eastbound on I-24. For an unknown reason, Ms. Shuanghui lost control of her vehicle and traveled into the median. The vehicle continued through the median and entered the eastbound lanes where it struck Mr. Powell's vehicle towards the rear of the driver's side. Both vehicles came to rest on the eastbound side of the roadway. Mr. Powell's mother, Verna S. Powell, age 50 of Paducah, KY, was sitting behind her son in the vehicle. Verna Powell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner's Office. Mr. Powell was flown from the scene to the Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Powell's wife, Chasity Powell, age 31 of Paducah, KY, was treated at the scene. Ms. Shuanghui was treated at the scene. All subjects involved were wearing seat belts. Trooper Luis Palmer investigated the crash that occurred on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at approximately 11:55 a.m. Trooper Ben Sawyer, Sergeant Jason Newby, the Oak Grove Police Department, the Christian County Sheriff's Department, Christian County EMS, the Christian County Coroner's Office, and Air Evac assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
