Fatal Collision on KY 800 in Christian County

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Paul D. Cavanaugh, age 54 of Nortonville, KY, was operating a moped eastbound on KY 800 (Crofton-Fruit Hill Road) east of Crofton. He was traveling in the rear of a group of several other mopeds. As the group was traveling eastbound, they approached a slight curve in the roadway. For an unknown reason, Mr. Cavanaugh's moped exited the right side of the roadway and traveled down a 25 to 30 foot embankment. Mr. Cavanaugh, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the moped. He was transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was later transferred to Deaconess in Evansville, IN. On Sunday, September 5, 2010 at approximately 9:44 p.m., he succumbed to his injuries and passed. Trooper Mike Manzanares investigated the crash that occurred on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at approximately 3:18 p.m. Christian County Fire & Rescue and Christian County EMS assisted at the scene.
