Stats From Post 2 For August 2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of August 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 45 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,255 Citations
  • Issued 405 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 133 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 21 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 483 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 74 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 146 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 963 Calls For Service
  • Opened 91 Criminal Cases
  • Made 176 Criminal Arrests

**There were 2 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 3 lives reported in the Post 2 District in August 2010. There was one double-fatality crash reported in Christian County. A single-fatality crash was reported in Hopkins County. All three victims were not wearing a seat belt.

Through August 31, 2010, 29 people have been killed in 26 crashes in the Post 2 District. 13 victims were not wearing seat belts, 10 victims were wearing seat belts, 4 victims were not wearing helmets, 1 was not applicable, and the seat belt status of 1 victim is unknown. 8 of the fatal crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through August 31, 2009, 23 people had been killed in 21 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
