Stats From Post 2 For July 2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of July 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 29 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,234 Citations
  • Issued 509 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 122 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 15 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 518 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 67 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 176 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 980 Calls For Service
  • Opened 81 Criminal Cases
  • Made 93 Criminal Arrests

*There were five (5) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of six (6) lives reported in the Post 2 District in July 2010. There was one double-fatality crash and one single-fatality crash reported in Crittenden County. Single-fatality crashes were reported in Christian, Hopkins, and Todd Counties. Three (3) victims were not wearing seat belts, two (2) victims were wearing seat belts, and one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet.

Through July 31, 2010, twenty-five (25) people have been killed in twenty-three (23) crashes in the Post 2 District. Ten (10) victims were not wearing seat belts, ten (10) victims were wearing seat belts, three (3) victims were not wearing helmets, one (1) was not applicable, and the seat belt status of one (1) victim is unknown. Eight (8) of the fatal crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through July 31, 2009, twenty-one (21) people had been killed in nineteen (19) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
