Stats From Post 2 For May 2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of May 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 40 Drunken Drivers
- Issued a Total of 2,803 Citations
- Issued 559 Speeding Citations
- Issued 1,177 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 43 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 630 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 97 Traffic Crashes
- Assisted 184 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,004 Calls For Service
- Opened 72 Criminal Cases
- Made 283 Criminal Arrests
*There were three (3) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three (3) lives reported in the Post 2 District in May 2010. Single fatality crashes occurred in Crittenden, Hopkins, and Muhlenberg Counties. One (1) victim was not wearing a seat belt and two (2) victims were wearing seat belts. Alcohol was a suspected factor in the Crittenden County fatality.
Through May 31, 2010, fifteen (15) people have been killed in fifteen (15) crashes in the Post 2 District. Seven (7) victims were not wearing seat belts, six (6) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, and one (1) was not applicable. Eight (8) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through May 31, 2009, sixteen (16) people had been killed in fourteen (14) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
