Stats From Post 2 For April 2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of April 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 34 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,524 Citations
  • Issued 531 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 193 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 25 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 485 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 75 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 148 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 918 Calls For Service
  • Opened 56 Criminal Cases
  • Made 181 Criminal Arrests

*There were five (5) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of five (5) lives reported in the Post 2 District in April 2010. Single fatality crashes occurred in Christian, Muhlenberg, and Todd Counties. There were two, single fatality crashes that occurred in Webster County. Two (2) victims were not wearing seat belts, two (2) victims were wearing seat belts, and one (1) was not applicable. Four of the five fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through April 30, 2010, twelve (12) people have been killed in twelve (12) crashes in the Post 2 District. Six (6) victims were not wearing seat belts, four (4) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, and one (1) was not applicable. Seven (7) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through April 30, 2009, fifteen (15) people had been killed in thirteen (13) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
