One Killed & One Injured in Rock Climbing Accident

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville at the request of the Caldwell County Sheriffs Department responded to the scene of an apparent accidental death. Mr. Ray D. Witherspoon Jr. age 20 of Nortonville, KY and Tyler Storie age 18 of Madisonville, KY were rock climbing and fell off of the rock bluffs in the Jones Keeney Wildlife Management Area located 8 miles east of Princeton, Ky. Both victims did not have any climbing equipment and were free style climbing. Mr. Witherspoon fell first and while en route to assist Mr. Storie also fell. Mr. Witherspoon was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Caldwell County Coroner. Mr. Storie was flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Hospital in Nashville, TN. No foul play is suspected and the case remains under investigation by Detective Lloyd Ray.
