One Killed in a Two Vehicle DUI Collsion on I-24

(Madisonville, Ky) -- On Friday, April 2, 2010, at approximately 10:12 P.M., Kentucky State Police Post 2 were notified of a roll over accident on Interstate 24 near the Kentucky/Tennessee state line. Upon arrival it was learned that a hit and run collision had occurred and a vehicle with substantial front end damage fled the scene. Four female occupants in a 1991 Buick passenger car were trapped inside the vehicle that had been struck and rolled over. Approximately 30 minutes later the suspect vehicle was located by Hopkinsville Police Department at the intersection of East 10th Street and South Virginia Street in the city limits of Hopkinsville. During the investigation, it was determined the suspect vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, was the vehicle that struck the Buick passenger car and fled the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, Edelbert J. Eastway, was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident/Failing to Render Aid or Assist with Death or Serious Physical Injury, Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs/1st Offense Aggravating Circumstances, and 4 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree & Murder. The passenger in the pickup truck Grant A. Lang, was charged with Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place 1st Offense. Both subjects were transported to the Christian County Detention Center where they were processed and lodged. The four occupants of the Buick passenger car weretransported via ambulance to Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, TN for medical treatment. Two of the female occupants were treated and released. One female occupant was admitted and is in non-critical condition. At approximately 5:52 A.M., Kentucky State Police Post 2 was notified by Gateway Medical Center that the front passenger in the Buick passenger car had expired due to injuries sustained in the collision. Next of kin was notified at Gateway Medical Center. At this time the collision is still under investigation by Trooper Derek Smith.
