Stats From Post 2 For March 2010

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of March 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 32 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,698 Citations
  • Issued 672 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 219 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 19 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 602 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 133 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 159 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 932 Calls For Service
  • Opened 55 Criminal Cases
  • Made 107 Criminal Arrests

*There was one (1) fatal crash that resulted in the loss of one (1) life reported in the Post 2 District in March 2010. The fatal crash occurred in Todd County and involved a motorcycle. The victim was not wearing a helmet.

Through March 31, 2010, seven (7) people have been killed in seven (7) crashes in the Post 2 District. Four (4) victims were not wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet and two (2) victims were wearing seat belts. Three (3) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through March 31, 2009, eleven (11) people had been killed in nine (9) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
