Shoplifting/Drug Arrest in Hopkins County

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- On Monday, March 22, 2010 at approximately 1:46 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville received a complaint from J & G Bargain World in Nortonville of a female subject shoplifting in the store. The store provided a description of the suspect to Post 2 dispatch. Trooper First Class John Komar responded to the scene and waited for the suspect to leave the store. TFC Komar stopped the suspect, later identified as Lori L. Mitchell, age 43 of Dawson Springs, KY. When confronted by TFC Komar, Ms. Mitchell advised that she had items from the store that she did not pay for. A search of her purse revealed approximately 9 items that were taken from the store. Suspected methamphetamine was also located in her purse. TFC Komar also located Ativan and Xanax in the vehicle Ms. Mitchell was using. She was arrested without incident and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking (Shoplifting), Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense-Meth & Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd Degree 1st Offense (2 counts). She was lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center. All items not paid for were returned to the store. Deputy Jeremy Crick of the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department assisted.
