Stats From Post 2 For February 2010

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of February 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 27 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,439 Citations
  • Issued 456 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 139 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 10 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 547 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 62 Crashes
  • Assisted 204 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 860 Calls For Service
  • Opened 44 Criminal Cases
  • Made 239 Criminal Arrests

**There were a total of four (4) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of four (4) lives reported in the Post 2 District in February 2010. Three fatalities occurred in Hopkins County and one fatality occurred in Christian County. Three victims were not wearing seat belts and one victim was wearing a seat belt. One of the fatal crashes in Hopkins County involved the suspected use of alcohol and the one in Christian County involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through February 28, 2010, six (6) people have been killed in six (6) crashes in the Post 2 District. Four (4) victims were not wearing seat belts and two (2) victims were wearing seat belts. Three (3) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through February 28, 2009, seven (7) people had been killed in six (6) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
