Arrests Made in Amish/Mennonite Investigations

An image of Levell M. Washington, click here to enlarge in a new window(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at approximately 5:30 p.m., KSP Detective Scott Smith lodged Levell M. Washington, age 18 of Cerulean, Ky., in the Christian County Detention Center. Mr. Washington was charged with one count of Burglary 1st Degree (Class B Felony) and one count of Robbery 1st Degree (Class B Felony). The charges stem from the investigation involving the recent Amish/Mennonite burglaries and robberies. More charges are pending against Mr. Washington.

Detective Smith also charged three juveniles in connection with these investigations. Two of the juveniles were charged with 9 counts of Burglary 1st Degree and 9 counts of Robbery 1st Degree. The third juvenile was charged with 8 counts of Burglary 1st Degree and 8 counts of Robbery 1st Degree. All three juveniles were lodged in the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police and more arrests are expected.

On Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at approximately 12:47 a.m., KSP was notified by the Christian County Sheriff's Department of a robbery in progress on Pruitt Lane near Pembroke, KY. Officers from several agencies responded to the scene. Upon arriving, the officers located the suspect vehicle at the entrance of the driveway; however, an immediate search of the area did not reveal the suspects. The investigation led officers to the residence of Mr. Washington on Jack Mize Road in Cerulean where he was taken into custody.

KSP DESI (Drug Enforcement/Special Investigations) West, KSP Special Operations K-9 Section, the Christian County Sheriff's Department, and the Hopkinsville Police Department assisted with the investigations and the arrests.

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville is currently investigating numerous robbery and burglary complaints in the Amish/Mennonite Communities of Christian and Todd Counties. At the present time, KSP has received a total of 10 reports. Three (3) were reported around the Fairview area of Todd County and seven (7) were reported between the Pembroke and Oak Grove area of Christian County. The robberies/burglaries have taken place between 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. over the past several days.

The suspects have been described as males being black or having a dark complexion. They were wearing bandanas or ski masks. They range in height from 5'7" to 6'0". The numbers of suspects have ranged from 2 to 5. They were armed with guns. At the present time, money and one firearm has been reported stolen. No injuries have been reported. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police.
