Three Injured in a Single Vehicle Collision on KY 973

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Maria Ortiz, age 22 of Central City, KY, was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on KY 973 when she lost control due to the slick conditions. The vehicle dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway and Ms. Ortiz overcorrected. The vehicle crossed both lanes of travel and exited the left shoulder of the roadway. It struck a fence and came to rest in a field. Maria Ortiz and her two passengers, Whitney Overton, age 21 of Greenville, KY and Delcarmen Ortiz, age 20 of Central City, KY, were transported by ambulance to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital for treatment. All subjects involved were wearing seat belts. Trooper Craig Engler investigated the crash that occurred on January 8, 2010 at approximately 7:45 a.m. Muhlenberg County EMS assisted at the scene.
