Fatal House Fire in Hopkins County

Date of News Release: 01/06/2010

Nortonville, KY (Hopkins County) -- On Wednesday, January 06, 2010, at approximately 10:56 a.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville was notified by the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department of a house fire involving one fatality. The location of the fire was 111 Jessie Street in the limits of Nortonville.

The victim, Richard O. Dillingham age 77 of Nortonville, KY, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner, Dennis Mayfield. An autopsy was performed today (01/06/2010) at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville. The victim, Richard O. Dillingham, died as a result of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police and the State Fire Marshal's Office. Foul play is not suspected.

KSP Detective Dan Morck, KSP Investigator Mark Boaz, and State Fire Marshal Phil Fogle are continuing the investigation. The Nortonville Volunteer Fire Department, South Hopkins Volunteer Fire Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Hopkins County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
